EARTHQUAKES NO LONGER OFFSHORE; NOW TAKING PLACE ON HONSHU ISLAND ITSELF

Until now, all of the earthquakes Japan has been experiencing today were off the eastern shore of the main island of Honshu. As shallow quakes, being offshore had helped reduce some of the damage that would have occurred had they taken place on the island of Honshu itself. Within the last hour, earthquakes have started occurring on Honshu, rather than offshore. In a related development, a M6.2 earthquake also occurred offshore to the west of the Honshu prefecture of Nagano.
